I’ve been in a bit of a foodie mood and I have to admit, I only realised this when I began sourcing pics for this post. The majority of my photos lately are all around food and I think it’s because I’m back in the swing of eating healthy again.
I love breakfasts, brunches and even breakfasts for dinner. While I love making eggs, there isn’t always time for that. Double cream yoghurt, heavy handed cinnamon and almond slivers with a fresh cup of tea is my next choice. Sometimes I’ll add a little bit of fruit, but this is just so good on it’s own. I’ve also rekindled my love of smoothies.
Breakfast in bed is even better and I’ve been wanting to snooze more, but my early mornings won’t allow it. I can’t wait to actually just lie-in this weekend. Brunch of perfectly poached eggs, pesto, salmon, avo, cream cheese and fresh tomato and rocket is a fave of mine at Hardpressed Cafe. This and their scrambled egg with salmon and chives (not pictured, although you might have seen it on SnapChat.)I’m very particular about my eggs. It’s the one thing I will always send back, respectfully, at a restaurant if they’re not right. Egg Diva! I love them scrambled in butter, where they are fluffy, but not overcooked and not too wet/under done. I love omelettes. I love them fried and they can either be sunny side up or over easy, but the yolk must be soft and the white must be cooked. The same applies for my poached eggs. I can’t handle the snotty white parts.
Sox came home with a packet of Sally-Ann Creed’s Banting Vanilla Muffin Mix. It’s so easy and when I posted a pic to Instagram, everyone wanted the recipe. Here’s the secret. I followed the instructions on the packet below, mixed everything together, popped them into the oven and enjoyed them warm with butter.Fresh cups of tea and a grapefruit that I thought I’d cheat. Instead of halving the grapefruit and then scraping it out, which usually results in grapefruit juice being squirted in my eye, I decided to quarter it, like an orange. Guess who still managed to get grapefruit juice in her eye…Sox cooks an incredible steak on the braai. It’s always juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. We never use any basting sauce on our steak because they’re full of sugar. A little olive oil, sea salt and fresh herbs do the trick.
I chopped up some fresh coriander, basil, rosemary from my herb pot, little chillies from my chilli pot plant, sea salt, black pepper and poured olive oil all over. That sat while the steaks cooked. I sliced up some Camembert cheese and then poured the herbs and oil marinade onto a wooden board. The steaks rested on top, while they were dressed with the rest of the herby marinade and cheese. It was delicious! So delicious that I didn’t get a photo of the final product.Crumbs & Cream has opened up in Sea Point and it has queues down the street. Admittedly when it opened, I was quite upset about my sugar free lifestyle, until I saw someone on social media chat about how delicious the Banting option was. Say whaaaaat?
Be still my beating heart… Off we went to see taste for ourselves. The Banting cookie is MUCH softer than the other cookies, and it’s more crumbly, but it’s delicious! The sugar free ice-cream is chocolate flavoured and incredible! It’s so great knowing that if I ever feel like something sweet, I can indulge somewhat healthily. Me-time: Watching series, movies, catching up on local magazines and munching on Kale chips, which I didn’t even want to try, because honestly, how good could they taste?
Turns out they’re bloody delicious!I’ve been trying to squeeze in Promenade walks – the weather has been beautiful again. It looks like I’m not the only one in a foodie mood… My Dad sent this to me the other day… Duke and a bowl of yoghurt. He really does lead the life! I can’t wait to visit Joburg again soon to see him! I’m craving some family time, Gabriel cuddles, quality time with my best friends and I can’t wait to meet the new member of our family. Baby Mason is my second cousin and he’s 2 weeks old. My cousin, Tammy is already an amazing mom and I can’t wait for baby breath and cuddles!
