I’m that nerd who counts down the sleeps to the hairdresser. Of all the beauty treatments in the world, I absolutely ADORE having my hair done. It’s the me-time and head massages that do it for me, and I always walk out like I’m in a hair advert. Yes, I’m that strange person walking down the road with a spring in her step and extra bounce in her hair (erm, it might also be because I can’t help but swoosh my hair around!)
Sorry. Not Sorry.
There are only 2 hairdressers I adore and trust completely in this world – Lindsay-Jade Calvert in Johannesburg and Brittny Jayne Amorim at Scar Hair, here in Cape Town.
Say “Hi!” to Brittny:
I’m pretty sure Brittny regrets the day we swopped numbers because for 5 days prior to my appointment, I’m sending her Pinterest Boards pictures of ideas. Sorry for the spam. I hope I’m not too bad!
I’ve been seeing pictures of Balayage and it looks sensational.
What is it? It’s a French word that means to sweep or to paint. I just had to try it.
I’ve been very very blonde lately and it’s all been one solid colour, which has been fantastic and light for Summer, but as we head into Winter I wanted to darken it ever so slightly. I do love the super light look, but when my hair is that light, my own natural darker blonde comes out in the regrowth looking so dark in contrast. I HATE that black halo look. Cheap and nasty is NOT the look I’m going for.
Here is the before:I must admit, I always get nervous when the colour is applied and my hair is wet because it always looks so dark. Like SUPER DARK! I’m pretty sure Brittny sees the “terror” in my eyes behind the nervous smile and always reassures me. I trust her completely.
Now, is there anyone who doesn’t like head massages? Well, we just can’t be friends.
It is heavenly and in my mind I’m always willing her not to stop, hoping she’ll instinctively feel the energy and give me an extra 5 minutes.
Mind you, Sox hates them and I married him. Ok… we can still be friends.
As soon as we start to blow dry, the true colour appears and I’m always blown away. Brittny is an artist! She’s bloody brilliant.I also love how different light changes the colours too.
You can see the rest of Brittny’s work on her Instagram.
Call Scar Hair to book your appointment and ask for Brittny.(021) 422-5900.

Hi! Do you know of anyone that does balayage in Joburg? I’m an American, living in Italy but will be visiting Joburg for a month (confusing, I know!) and will need to have my hair done. Love balayage and your style! Of appreciate any suggestions for salons! Thank you!!!
