They say the way to a man’s heart is through food, and the way to a woman’s heart is through shoes or a spa treatment. OK, so I made up the last part, but I’m pretty sure it’s accurate.
We got to experience the best of both at the V&A Waterfront this week, in the lead up to Valentines Day!
Sox and I have been up to our ears in wedding plans and while it can quickly become stressful, we decided to take a break from it all and indulge our senses.
We arrived at The Table Bay Hotel and went straight to The Camelot Spa, where we greeted by the lovely Victoria who showed us around the facilities.
We headed into the expansive change rooms…Changed into white robes and slippers and met for some pre-treatment treats and Orange tea, which is really relaxing. After filling out some forms, we headed off to the treatment rooms.A full Thalgo facial and Pedicure for Sox and a full Thalgo facial and Indian Head Massage for me! Bliss. The Thalgo facial has marine properties, so to start the facial, my therapist, Astrid, rubbed the cloth that was around my hair and over my ears in such a way, that it made it sound like waves crashing onto the shore. It was incredibly therapeutic and the smell of each product was blissfully relaxing.I fell asleep half way through and it was just magical. Exactly what my skin and my body needed. I didn’t want the Indian Head Massage to stop. Astrid poured a mixture of warm coconut oil and Rose and Geranium essential oils all over my head and massaged away! If you’ve never done this before, it’s an absolute must, so don’t be afraid of getting your hair a little oily.
How did Sox enjoy his treatments? It was his first time having a facial and he loved it – I have a sneaky suspicion that this will become a regular occurrence. He loved the pedicure too and has promised he’s going to have them more often. After it was sadly all over, she pulled my hair into an oiled back pony tail and I clipped it into a bun! After a refreshing shower, Sox and I floated over to the Camissa Restaurant – Quintessentially South African, at The Table Bay for a sensory taste experience.
It was such a beautiful Summer day, so I was thrilled when we were led to our table outside. We had the most incredible view of the Vava II yacht, which is owned by the Richest Man in Switzerland and the Richest woman in Britain. It really is a majestic beauty. For Valentines Day, Camissa have paired dishes with certain scents. I received this gift with the scents inside. We started off with Crispy House Duck and grilled peaches with purple garden basil and sage vinaigrette, crisp radish and saladini. The second starter was Franschoek Trout with a light Malay coconut cream, confit celery, baby leeks and baby marrow spaghetti with spekboom. It was so tasty! An ice cold Lemon and Buchu scented towel tied in with the sorbet course. The Main course arrived and Sox and I loved this the most. Lamb cutlets, Camissa white wine and mint marinade, lemon scented sweet potatoes, white bean and snow pea hash with a mint jus. Before dessert arrived, we received another ice cold towel scented with lemon, frangipani and rose. The beautiful fresh floral burst with the citrus hint was just lovely. The brilliant Chef Joslyn, came out each time with an explanation of the dish and a new scent for us to try… It really is a wonderful experience to smell and taste our way through the 5 courses. She presented the final course, which looked like an artwork! Lemon Crèmeux, Pistachio Sponge Cake, pistachio cream, meringue crumbs, cherry sorbet and candied pistachio.
Sox tasted the dessert and gave me a rave review! If you’ve been wondering what to do this Valentines Day, I hope this has helped!
