It’s Nelson Mandela’s Birthday today. He has not only inspired a nation, he has inspired the world.
In honour of his birthday it’s all about donating 67 minutes of your life to help and give back.
Taken off the website:
“The Mandela Day campaign message is simple: Mr Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting your chosen charity or serving your local community.
Mandela Day is a call to action for individuals – for people everywhere – to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr Mandela did.”
Yesterday I joined the Link Outreach Program and went to the Paediatric ward at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. What an eye opening experience. I was completely humbled and life was very quickly put into perspective.
We went from ward to ward handing out goody bags (Spiderman was a hit) and it was so heart warming to see these little children smile through their pain or illness.
I had a massive lump in my throat when we were in the HIV ward and the Oncology Ward. These little children are so incredibly vulnerable and so incredibly brave.

Spending a morning in the wards just made me very grateful for my health and I was very humbled seeing these children being so brave and strong.
Thank you so much to Emma King for organizing everything, Link Pharmacy for all the goody bags and Lorinda Voges from 4Elements Medi. Really proud to have been a part of it.
How are you spending your Mandela Day?
