I adore snail maill! Oh there is nothing better than going to the post office, unlocking that tiny post box and finding a slip to say that a package has arrived. I stand in the queues in the post office and wait for the package to arrive – wondering what it will look like.
It’s no secret that our postal service in South Africa isn’t the most reliable, but I swooshed my positive thoughts around and Voila!
“You Got Mail!”
I follow a few blogs – some local, some international and every single blog that I have listed on the left hand side I read daily. I don’t know how I found them, but I did and I like to think that I found them for a reason – they either inspire me, they make me laugh, they are thought-provoking, entertaining and each one is unique and special in its own way. I’m very thankful for them actually… but this Thankful Thursday blog post is dedicated to one particular blog – The Shine Project.
The woman behind it is Ashley Le Mieux and she is such a ray of sunshine. Each blog post, is inspiring and humbling. She’s also incredibly creative… one of the things she creates is The Shine Necklace. I love the concept behind them.
Living in a country that is so full of possibilities and hope… I just knew I had to bring the Shine Necklaces into Africa.
This is from Ashley’s blog:
I’ve been a busy little bee putting these new necklace options together
I can’t even contain my excitement anymore….
Here’s what’s new with the SHINE necklaces.
My goal has always been to make AFFORDABLE necklaces.
That will NEVER change.
I have raised the price $1, but that money is not going to me.
I wanted to do something that would involve EVERYONE’S
contribution at the end of the year.
The extra dollar is going into The Shine Project fund.
In January 2012, the money will be going to
the first ever Shine Project Scholarship award
for an inner city school students college education.
I couldn’t wait to tear it open. Inside was a beautiful hand written note and 4 exquisite necklaces that I am going to be giving to my closest friends, so that we can all be reminded to SHINE and help others shine too.
I can’t wait to take photos of us wearing our shine necklaces!
The interview with the amazing star behind the initiative is… Coming Soon!
