Kindness

If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all. It really is that simple.

This time of year is supposed to be one of the happiest times of the year. Realistically, it’s not always the case. People are lonely, people are away from their families, they have lost someone during the year and this time is a reminder of their loss, some people have lost their jobs, others have family members that are really sick. It’s life, I’m afraid and it’s sad. It’s not always a Christmas Hallmark moment.

My point is that you don’t always know what is going on in peoples lives.

Be kind.

It costs nothing and it makes such a difference.

All you need to do is read the news and realize how much negativity there is in the world. Why would you want to add to that?

I’ve had a few unnecessary comments made and I understand that it happens more because I happen to be in the public eye. I also happen to be stronger than that.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t affect me, I am human after all and no one likes to hear/read nasty comments made. But I know how to deal with these things better. It stings for a little while and then I shrug it off. I figure they feel bad about themselves and have to put me down to make themselves feel better.

Bleh.

What about those who don’t deal with these things well?

Do you know what your comments do to people? Do you think about how they could affect someone?

Another cliche comes to mind: Think before you speak.

This should be a happy time. 2011 has been a tough year for people. It’s been full of high high’s and low lows. Let’s be kind to one another.

“Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you – not because they are nice, but because you are.”
