I can’t believe Sox and I are nearly married 8 months (November 4th/5th to be precise.) Time has flown!
We went for a Date Night to the Quarterdeck Restaurant at the Portswood Hotel, which is a part of the Legacy Group. The Restaurant is located in an original section of the Breakwater Convict Station, which was built in 1860, making it rich in heritage and history.

We were welcomed by bubbly Winnie. It was her first day and our first time at the restaurant, so we all welcomed each other. We sat down, had white napkins placed over our laps and looked at the wine list.
Our waitress, Firdaus Fredericks (I took note of her name badge) was a real sweetheart. Sorry for the poor quality of this photo…
She explained the Cape Malay inspired menu to us and told us what some of the firm favourites were.
I couldn’t decide between the Oxtail or the Lamb and Pumpkin Bredie.
While I see-sawed between the two, we sipped on a smooth red. Sox and I actually tried this wine when we visited Nederburg to taste wines for the wedding. Read the post here. We started with a light Parma Ham, buffalo mozzarella and melon starter…
Sox chose the Pork Belly and roasted veggies…
The Lamb and Pumpkin Bredie won and it arrived in it’s own little potjie pot. It comes with rice, naan bread and papadums, but I opted for the roasted veggies instead (not photographed.)
It was so good to sit and chat over good food, a bottle of red and catch up on our days. Sox, I’m so glad I’ve got you in my life. You’re an absolute gem.

October 27, 2016 at 1:50 pmJust looking at that food makes me drool a little. I have to say, while I love our restaurant offerings in Durban, Cape Town really takes the cake!
