With all the Public Holidays lately, it’s been a little unsettling and even though I work every Public Holiday, it still feels like it’s stop-start.
It was also Greek Easter this past weekend. Strange to have it so late, especially because Easter this year was so early – at the end of March. Next year, Greek Easter will fall on the same day as my Easter.
Last Thursday night I was invited to a good friend, Georgina’s home for a girls night of wine and Tsoureki baking. Tsoureki is the Greek Easter bread, that looks like a Kitka, but it tastes very different. It is slightly sweet and has a special spice in it that you only get from Greece. It’s absolutely delicious!
It’s not Banting friendly I’m afraid… I’ll have to look into a recipe for next year. I also underestimated how much hard work goes into it. You get a full arm workout mixing and kneading and then you wait a while for the dough to rise… I’ll never eat a piece of Tsoureki again without the appreciation.I was so proud of my 3 babies… Look at how lovely they look fresh out of the oven…Martine decided to make a Jewish Greek Tsoureki! She raised our 3 strand braided breads with her 5 strands! It was so funny and so impressive! I mean just look at this monster in comparison…On Greek Easter Sunday we had a delicious lunch at Sox’s Mom and even though it was hard being the first Easter without Sox’s Dad, it was really special to spend family time together. We cut the Tsoureki and also a Swiss Nusstorte cake that came all the way from the restaurant and bakery called Schneider’s in Davos, Switzerland. In other news, I’ve been filming my Beauty with Bailey segments for the Expresso Morning show. It airs every Tuesday morning. If you want to see all the videos so far…
I visited Fox Box for a short, square and dark manicure. I love going darker for Winter and alternate between deep, dark colours and nudes. This is Gelish in Black Cherry Berry and I love the deep maroon colour.Yesterday, Sox, his mom and I took a walk down the road from us for a breakfast. Don’t underestimate a hearty breakfast – I am a sucker for buttery, cheesy scrambled eggs.Oh and my Mom sent this pic to me… Duke loves car rides and here they were on the way to (or home from) the Vet. I miss them so much… even more with Mother’s Day this Sunday.

Duke alert!!!!
He is such a gorgeous boy, and I’m sure you must miss him something crazy!
Those breads look delicious! If you don’t mind me asking, what are the red ‘eggs’ that is inserted? I assume it has a special significance. And well done to you for doing a bread from scratch!
PS, love the mani!
May 4, 2016 at 10:57 amThanks Natasha!! The red eggs are your normal eggs that have been dyed red and they’re associated with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus! You don’t actually eat the egg with the bread – it’s more decoration in the bread. There is also a game that’s played with the red eggs at the lunch table! You each pick an egg and then hold it in a certain way and then try to crack the other persons egg. Whoever is left with the uncracked egg is the winner and has good luck! 😉 xxx
May 4, 2016 at 11:00 amThanks for that info. I’ve often seen it, but didnt want to offend by asking. Glad I know now.
May 5, 2016 at 7:34 amNo offense at all! I always find various cultures fascinating! I think we would be a better world if we took the time to understand each culture and have empathy over why people do what they do! Have the best day x
