Writing these posts and trying to figure out which of the 1000s of photos to share has been the most time consuming, so thank you for your patience! I’ve had to split them up, so that it’s not one massively long post. The posts are as follows: Pre-wedding story. My Wedding Dresses. Our Greek Wedding. Still to come: Our English Wedding and Our Wedding Party.
On the 4th of March, 2016, I woke up in my apartment, with my little sister, Tandi, who had flown in from London. Sox and I didn’t see each other the night before, which made it traditionally romantic.
I hadn’t felt nervous before and I woke up feeling the magnitude of the day. I was excited and anxious and had feelings of “Oh my gosh! It’s all happening today!” I’m so glad my sister was there because she just made everything better.
Off we went to the Radisson Blu Le Vendome Hotel in Sea Point, where my parents were staying. My bridesmaids, Karolina, Lucia and Tandi helped me get ready in my parents suite.
Kimlyn was my make up artist and hair stylist for both days and she worked her magic. We had 2 different looks for both days and dresses.
My Mom and Dad got ready and looked so beautiful and dapper, respectively. My bridesmaids got into their navy blue eternity dresses. They looked so beautiful!
In the meantime, this was happening at the church:
The men looked incredibly handsome in their Frank Bespoke custom made suits!
These photos below of Sox and his Dad, George, are incredibly special and emotional. We genuinely believe he held on to watch us get married. 6 weeks after our wedding, he passed away and to have these memories and photos is priceless to us. I’m all teary typing this.
I can’t believe how fast the morning went and soon, I was getting into my Wedding dress and the veil was placed into my bun. We went downstairs to the lobby where 3 Maserati cars were waiting (Sox had surprised us with this) to take us to the Greek Orthodox Church in Woodstock, Cape Town. It is one of the most beautiful churches, with it’s brightly painted walls, golden details and it has the most warm and wonderful energy.
Of course we got stuck in traffic, and I was feeling so excited and anxious to just get there. We were traditionally late, by default of the traffic.
As soon as we arrived, our incredibly talented florists Green Goddess were there to wrap fresh flower belts around their dresses – something different to the traditional bouquets. My bouquet was absolutely exquisite too and you’ll see it in the photos below.
Look at my beautiful Mom, Jenny.
My sister and wedding co-ordinator/planner, Jadee Fernandes from Watermelon Events helped me out the car and fluffed out my dress… She was amazing at tying everything together and helping me with everything I needed.
Soon it was time to walk down the aisle, with my Dad. I wanted to savour it because it goes by so quickly.
I remember the church doors opening, linking arms with my Dad and stepping into the church. I just remember hearing gasps from all my friends and family and it made me burst with happiness. As soon as I locked eyes with Sox, waiting for me down the alter, I’ll never forget him mouth: “Wow!”
I kissed and hugged my Dad, as he lifted my veil and leaned in to kiss my Mom.
My Dad’s face here makes me tear up…
The Greek Priest, Father Nikolaos Giamouridis was amazing – he did most of the ceremony in Greek and a little English and he spoke so fondly, really taking pride in the ceremony.
The Stefana (crowns) were placed onto our heads, with a single ribbon that binds us together, we sipped the very sweet wine from the Common Cup. We exchanged rings and the Greek tradition is to wear them on the right hand, so you’ll sometimes see me alternate. I often get asked this on Instagram, if I post a pic and my wedding ring isn’t on my left hand.
The thing with the Greek ceremony is that it is long… Our ceremony was an hour long and you don’t sit – not even the guests – sorry guys! Love you all. There were times when I was shifting from foot to foot and trying to get comfortable.
My incredibly beautiful bridesmaids… I’m the luckiest girl in the world to have them in my life.
It was then time for the rice throwing and walking around the table three times in the Ceremonial Walk. We had BAGS of rice thrown all over us, not a little sprinkling. One of his groomsmen, Alexi, got him back for when he dumped a huge bag of rice over Alexi and Laura on their wedding day.
Well, I had rice EVERYWHERE and I sometimes think I’m still finding rice 😉
The ceremony was done and I felt like I might burst with happiness to be married to my soulmate! We walked out the church to another shower of rice and well wishes!
After the church service, it was off to Greyton. That evening everyone met for the ice-breaker/meet and greet Build your own Burger Bar. It was amazing because people from all over the world: Greece, Switzerland, London, Zimbabwe, Johannesburg, Los Angeles and Cape Town, could now officially meet and party together, so that the next day, when we had our English ceremony and reception, everyone was friends and not segregated sticking to who they knew.
The English Ceremony is next, followed by the reception. Boy, that was one incredible party!

November 23, 2016 at 1:20 pmThese are just breathtaking. So much raw and open emotion in so many of the pics. I especially love the ones of Sox and his dad – it’s not often nowadays that you’ll see a father and son actually kissing. It always warms my heart, seeing men sharing their love for each other freely!
