Today is my little sister Tandi’s birthday.
I didn’t quite understand the concept at 2 and a half years old when my mom pointed at her ever expanding tummy, telling me that I was going to have a little brother or sister. I just remember thinking I hope it’s a sister. Boys are gross. I want to be able to play Barbie with her and push her around in my pram.
My mom and dad both wanted 2 little girls, but decided to wait in finding out the sex. The midwife back in 1986 kept telling my mom that in her 25 years of being a midwife, she had never been wrong in “predicting” the sex of the baby and with the strong heart beat and that kick, it was definitely a boy.
Um…
It’s weird to call her my “little” sister when today is her 26th birthday, but she will always be my baby sister and I will always remember her like this…

The sisterly bond and love was instant and I have always felt incredibly protective |

My cutie pie sister and I. Don’t you love my Super Girl outfit and my earrings? My love for accessories started young. LOL |

Being “classy” early on, while my sister was just adorable… |

My first day of school and Tandi wanted to copy me, so she got her own mini suitcase and hair in pigtails |

The last time I got to push her around… tables reversed later on! Kidding. |
My parents loved the Zulu name “Thandi” which means “loved one.” They removed the “h” and called her Tandi. She is the most wonderful, beautiful inside and out, thoughtful, kind, caring and phenomenal woman. She is such a hard worker, fabulously successful and nothing is ever too much. I do often think she should have been the oldest, and it certainly seems like it sometimes.
This was really fascinating finding photo’s over the years… it’s made me realize how few photo’s we actually have together, even though we have so many memories.

Happy Birthday darling Tandi. I am so grateful for you and so very proud of you. Even though we haven’t always gotten on famously and sometimes don’t see eye to eye, you are very special to me and I admire you more than you will ever know.
I found some great quotes and I had to share them:
If your sister is in a tearing hurry to go out and cannot catch your eye, she’s wearing your best sweater. ~Pam Brown

I love you lots!
