Braids are all the rage right now and even though they are synonymous with Summer, there is no reason, these styles can’t be worn in Winter too!
Braids have transformed from Pippy Longstocking and little girl pigtails, to something chic and fashionable.
Just look at the various international and local celebrities who love their braided hairstyles. All images have been sourced from Pinterest. Reality TV stars, the Kardashians love their boxer dutch plaits. Here’s Kim and Khloe with the styleActress Sienna Miller loves her milkmaid braids. As does Jennifer Lawrence and the Olson Twins.Even our local actress Boity loves her braids…Of course, it’s no secret that I adore my braids too and I am constantly practising and playing..Admittedly I didn’t do these braids below. This was taken from a photo shoot I did for a Magazine cover. How do you wear braids this Winter?
Chanel Iman rocks the halo braid and this is amazing with a chunky jersey or scarf.Milkmaid braids, fishtail braids, the dutch braid, cornrows and even the French braid can be worn with the cosiest coat or even under a beanie, like Taylor Swift here…Or a chic winter hat.Braids can be really feminine or edgy, depending on what you wear with them. Wearing braids with a leather jacket for example, gives you a different edge over wearing them with something soft and feminine. Regardless of what you wear, braids will always finish a look off.
As long as you have enough hair to create 2 or 3 strands to braid, braids work on almost every length of hair and work for any occasion. Wear them on:
- a date
- at the gym
- for a business meeting
- a girl’s night out
- to a festival
- simply on an ordinary day, because you can.
Braids look amazing, no matter what hair colour you have. Renew has 18 vibrant shades to choose from and when you have more than one Renew colour, plaits can look even more interesting – showing different tones.
These hairstyles are best on day old and 2 day old hair, as they tend to hold better than on freshly washed hair, which might slip right out. You don’t have to wash your hair as often as you do in summer, which is great, because wet hair in winter, is never fun. Get creative and pair different braids together, like Kristen Bell has done here… Look at how gorgeous her hair colour is too…
I sometimes take for granted that not everyone knows how to braid, so here is how to create the simple braid:
- Section your hair into 3 pieces.
- Take the right section and cross it over the middle strand, joining the other two strands.
- Take the left section and cross it over the middle strand, joining the other 2 strands.
- Repeat and then tie it off with a hair band.
- It does take practice, but once you’ve perfected it, they’ll only get better and better.
Braids are here to stay, so get creative and keep chic. Which braid is your favourite to try this Winter?

Braids are the one thing I miss most after cutting my hair short earlier this year. They are just so versatile!
July 12, 2016 at 8:27 amThis is beautiful! I have tried some braids, like the fishtail…but I wasn’t very good at it…I’ll have to experiment more! x
July 12, 2016 at 9:29 amI love braids. And I do love seeing the different braids you have, Bailey! Always stunning. When I had long hair, I tried just a simple standard braid, and I pulled it off. But I was too nervous to try anything more adventurous! Now my hair is a lot shorter, but I think I could still pull of a small braid or too. I feel like I should try! Xx
