It’s Valentines Day on Friday. I’ve said it before… I do believe every day should be a day of showing your love and appreciation to those who matter in your life.
Commercially, I think Valentines Day is really geared up for those in loved up relationships, which can be a pretty awful day for those who aren’t all loved up – it’s just a lovely, lonely reminder.
We’ve all been in that place… so I’ve decided to make this Valentines Day a day to spoil all my loved ones, not just the love of my life.
I think this day can be whatever you make it… Make it a big deal or don’t… Use it as an extra reminder to say: “I love you. Thank you for everything you do for me. I appreciate you!”
I hope Socrates doesn’t read my blog this week, because I have something special planned for when I return back to Cape Town.
I went into Melissa’s The Food Shop last week to get my birthday cake. It’s never that simple… it’s exactly the same as walking into a Woolworths – you go in for one thing and walk out with twenty.
I couldn’t resist all the amazing products and it’s inspired my idea of a picnic. I really really hope he’s not reading.
Whilst I was putting a picnic basket together, I saw some beautiful treats that made me think of some other special people in my life.
Don’t get me wrong – Valentines Day doesn’t have to be about expense… a simple card or poem is beautiful and sentimental, but I saw these and just knew that the specials in my life would appreciate them. I also think they will be appreciated a lot more than a rose that will die in a few days.
Oh and Sox, if you are reading… I’m not knocking the red roses either.
Also just saying. Ha!
I thought about making my mom, my sister, my dad and my best friend Karolina feel special.
I got the hamper and instead of just giving the whole hamper to one person, I split it up and shared the love…
This Vanilla Fudge tin I know Karolina will love nibbling on and the Vanilla will remind her of me – hopefully the distance won’t feel so far.
Jammy Hearts for my Dad… I can just picture him dunking these into his tea.
Fancy heart biscuits for my mom in a useful bottle…
Heat shaped meringues are perfect for my sister, Tandi
The best part about these gifts is that they can be shared…so they will be able to share them with their loved ones…
You can get your Melissa’s Treats at any Melissa’s The Food Shop. I got mine at the V&A Waterfront.
