Lemon, ginger and honey tea

So many people are sick at the moment. It’s the change of season and I’m hoping to keep the bugs at bay. I’m not sick, but my little sister is and I made this tea for her.

I swear by my home made lemon, honey and ginger tea. I know you can buy various teas at the shops, but I prefer to use fresh ingredients.

The health benefits are superb.

Lemon juice has Vitamin C – vital for a strong immune system.

Ginger has therapeutic properties as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It also promotes healthy sweating which is a great detox and can be helpful when suffering from colds or flu. It also helps setting upset stomachs, dizziness and nausea.

Honey has a soothing effect on sore throats and it’s a great natural cough suppressant. It also boosts the body’s immune system  and helps the body fight infection and fever.

These are the ingredients you will need:

You really don’t need a lot of ginger as it is quite powerful. Cut a small sliver and keep the rest in the fridge.

Make sure you peel away the skin…

Grate the piece to release the juices and to create smaller pieces that are easy to swallow. If you can swallow them, your body will thank you.

Add it to your cup:

Cut a lemon into quarters. 1 lemon will give you 4 cups of this tea.

Squeeze a quarter lemon into your cup:

I use 2 teaspoons of honey:

Add boiling water….

 Stir…

Wait for the ginger to settle at the bottom and enjoy.

*Thanks to my mom for taking the “action” photos 😉
