Hudsons Burger Joint Stellenbosch

On Sunday morning, Sox and I had our morning tea (me) and cappuccino (him), peaked through the curtain to see what the weather was doing and then got ready to head out to Stellenbosch.

I always love the drive, especially when we pass the set for Black Sails… It’s quite something seeing Pirate ships on dry land!

I particularly love Stellenbosch and the wine lands in Winter because of the moody weather (and the log fires and red wine of course.)

We were driving through to support our good friends Dave and Greeny who have opened up another brand new Hudsons Burger Joint.

I absolutely adore their burgers, their toppings, their sides and I can’t deny that they make unbelievably good pizza and desserts. Order the waffle with Nutella. You’ll thank me.

We walked into a packed cosy space of tables and leather booths, good music and warm heaters…

We were taken straight to our big table outside in the courtyard and hugged and kissed everyone. The rest of the afternoon was filled with laughter, catch ups and delicious food.

I love seeing Sox and Max together – they have the cutest bond!

Dave, one of the owners, was going through all the orders and ensuring that the kitchen was running properly. His son, Max was watching Dad’s every move. I candidly snapped, and they might be a little blurry, but I love them because it almost made me feel like I was watching a moment in history that could become a future of following in Dads footsteps.

Let’s get into the food…

As I was snapping the pics of Dave and Max, this came out of the kitchen… Chicken waffles. It looked and smelled so good. I stopped the waitron so that I could snap a quick pic.

We all ordered burgers, ribs, pizzas and a whole bunch of different sides – chips, potato wedges, slaw, house salads and I tried my best to photograph as quickly as I could, slapping eager hands away! I was too late and our friends were too fast, but this will give you an idea…

This is the Shroom burger. Melted cheese and a creamy mushroom sauce smothered over a delicious burger patty. It is more-ish

You can order your burger as is, with a soft sesame bun or guido style, which is bun less.

The burger patties are so flavoursome and done medium, so they are really juicy.

The sweet potato wedges are just so good. Here’s a little hint – order the cab driver sauce and dip these babies. You will thank me.

The ingredients are fresh and each burger/pizza is made from scratch as they’re ordered.

This is the Bacon Jam… it is AMAZING!

I’ll admit, it’s not Banting… but there are plenty of options on the menu. You can order your burgers guido style and without the basting sauce. They’re very accommodating, which I appreciate in restaurants these days.

With very full and satisfied bellies, we said our good byes and took a drive home. I was in my element snapping the scenery whizzing by and the ever changing skyline. We really do live in the most wonderful country.

Make sure you checkout the new Hudsons Burger Joint in Stellenbosch or the Cape Town branches in Greenpoint, Claremont and on Kloof street.

There is also a Hudsons in Parkhurst, Johannesburg.
