My breastfeeding journey has been completely different second time around. I can’t believe it, but I am 4 days away from 5 months of breastfeeding and I am so damn proud of myself. It has been the hardest journey and one I still need to put into words (separate blog post coming.) I’ve been really committed to this even though it has been one challenge after the next. I have only been expressing for 2 months – the months that I have been back at work.
I express whilst I’m in studio, on my radio show, which is pretty challenging. I take advantage of my 6 songs in a row to get in a 10-15 minute pump. It’s tough, but Mom’s are tougher and I’ve gotten used to being discreet in my large glass studio. That expressed milk is used for the next mornings feed, when I’m at work. I also express (sometimes) at around 22:00. It’s the feed he seems to skip and unfortunately if I skip getting the milk out, my breasts harden and by the time I feed at 3am, I’ve leaked all over or I’m rock hard and painfully engorged.
The rest of the time, Alexandros is at the breast and I am so proud of myself. I’ve always believed that fed is best, but the fact that I have managed to succeed this time around, challenges and all, feels like a huge accomplishment.
I’ve been working with Tommee Tippee, who have an impressive range of options in Breast Pumps and accessories, like the Travel Steam Microwave Bag. I wanted to share what they have, so that you can see the holistic range and decide what will work best for you.
These are now on the essential list of baby items in lockdown, so you’re able to order now.
The Closer to Nature breast pump systems provide you with everything you need to express, protect, prepare and feed your baby so your little ones get the benefits of breast milk, even when you’re not there.
a) You want to be quiet. Handy on my radio show (pun intended.)
c) Loadshedding and you don’t have batteries for your electric pump. This has been a lifesaver a few times over.
d) increase your milk supply. If I feel like I’m not producing enough, after a feed, I pop the convenient manual pump on and get a few more mls and increase my supply.
The Tommee Tippee Manual Pump comes with these accessories: 1 Closer to Nature 150ml bottle, 1 milk storage pot, 6 disposable breast pads and 1 microwave steriliser box.
Another great feature that I love with the Tommee Tippee pumps is that you get little storage pots, that fit into the bottle, so you can express directly into those, close the lids and store. It saves time from not having to decanter.
Electric Breast Pump:
The Close to Nature Electric Breast Pump is impressive.
- It has massaging motions, which mimic your baby and it helps get more milk.
- Unique soft silicone cup for extra comfort. It also sticks to your skin beautifully without feeling like it’s going to fall off. I’ve had this happen to me in the past (with another brand) and I didn’t just cry over spilled milk, I sobbed.
- Electric or battery operated for use at home or on the go.
The Electric Breast Pump comes with these accessories: 1 Closer to Nature Easi-Vent 150ml Baby Bottle, 1 Milk Storage Pot, 6 Disposable Breast Pads and 1 Microwave Steriliser Box.Easy to use, not too noisy at all and super comfortable. It’s really efficient too. It has 4 settings to choose from that enable you to control the let down to the flow.
There is a brand new Electric Pump coming out too: The Made for Me Electric Breast pump is portable, lightweight and discreet, because it’s extremely quiet. It gives you a choice of massage and express modes so that you can choose the most comfortable way to stimulate your milk flow and express your milk.
What makes this pump special?
- Lab Tested: Significantly quieter than the leading breast pump available. YAY!
- USB Rechargeable: Powered by a USB rechargeable power unit so Moms can power up and use whenever and wherever they want either in or out of home. You can also plug in the breast pump and still use it whilst charging giving you maximum flexibility.
- Gentle on breasts: Soft, cushioned silicone cup that’s gentle on sore breasts.
- Long lasting power. A full charge gives you over 60 minutes of power to pump on the go
- Massage & Express modes: Choose from 5 massage and 9 express settings to stimulate milk flow and express breast milk in a way that’s comfortable for you
- BPA/BPS free: Safe for baby and mum
This is brand new to the Tommee Tippee Brand and I’m excited about this.
Introducing the Made for Me Single Silicone Breast Pump, which is fantastic for catching let down.
I also use mine to help get out any hard lumps. I suction it onto my breast and then very gently massage any sore lumps, whilst catching liquid gold. It really helps.
Use it in the shower. There is something about a hot shower, that promotes milk flow and this helps catch that precious milk.
This pump comes with a milk storage bag and the Travel Steam Microwave bag. You can also purchase the bags separately.
The Travel Steam Microwave Bag:
This is a reusable Travel & Microwave Steriliser Bag, which is designed to look like a cosmetic bag so it can fit nice and discreetly into any handbag or baby bag. It stores the pump in a sterile environment but can also be used once mums have expressed to keep everything clean for transport. No worrying about spilt milk.
The Travel & Microwave steriliser bag can sterilise the silicone breast pump and other feeding accessories at home or it is perfect for when you’re out and about or going on holiday and don’t want to pack your large pump. You get 30 uses out of each bag and there’s a clever Cool Area, where you can hold that and not burn your fingers when removing from the microwave.
They are available in lockdown and you can purchase from Baby City, Takealot and Babies R Us.
