Christmas Day 2013

This time of year can be absolutely magical and also mixed with a little bit of sadness. It’s family time and I missed mine so much.

Thank goodness for Skype and FaceTime.

However, it was incredible to spend time with my second family – Sox’ family and I absolutely love them.

They have welcomed me with loving arms from the very beginning and I feel like that is a big thing – especially in a Greek family.

On Christmas morning, Sox and I opened up presents under the tree. I was utterly spoilt and so grateful.

It’s also a tradition of mine to eat the Swiss German cake, Stollen.

After the unwrapping it was time for me to start on the roast.

I had wanted to roast a Cornish Hen with stuffing – it’s my gran and mom’s recipe, but I couldn’t find any hens, so a big chicken it was.

I’ll post a recipe up – it’s so simple and so delicious. Recipe here.

I also roasted sweet potatoes and butternut until they were crispy

We arrived at the Georgiades’ family and I could smell Christmas wafting from the kitchen. Sox’ mom Dimitra had done a roast leg of lamb, spinach pie (spanakopita), Greek salad and I added my roast chicken and stuffing and potatoes.

The entire meal was absolutely delicious.

After lunch, we opened up gifts under the tree and then enjoyed tea with Galaktoboureko dessert.
