Avène Beauty

When the French talk about style and beauty, I sit up and listen.

Eau Thermale Avène is the No. 1 Dermo-cosmetic in Europe and has been in SA for a little under 3 years.

I’ve seen the Eau Thermale Avène beauty products on shelves at Dischem and Clicks, and finally decided to try this brand out. I’m really thrilled I did.

The Story:

The Avène thermal spring rises in Southern France at the foot of the Cévennes Mountains in the Orb Valley. The water wells up, clear and pure, from the depth of the mountains where it has trickling for over 40 years. It’s pH balance is close to neutral and has low mineral contents, essential trace elements and silica, which leads a thin, softening and protective film on the skin.

The soothing and anti-irritating properties of Avène Thermal Spring water have been demonstrated by numerous scientific studies with these results:

  • A decreased reaction in skin cells implicated in skin hypersensitivity.
  • An improvement in the quality of the skin surface.

Their “Skin Protect Ocean Respect” pledge:

They’ve launched an initiative to protect and regenerate damaged coral reefs and this beautiful video shows more.

Avène Thermal Spring Water’s Uses:

  • Keep skin hydrated during travel.
  • Apply to sunburn.
  • Spray after you exercise.
  • Spray on damaged skin – like a grazed knee.
  • Spray on itchy skin to soothe.
  • Apply after a surgical procedure.
  • Spray to reduce facial redness.
  • Apply after you’ve shaved/waxed.
  • Soothes razor burn.
  • Soothes nappy rash.
  • Spray after you’ve removed your make-up.

Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser:

I’ve always preferred a cleanser that foams as it feels like it cleans more. However, in the past year I’ve found myself moving more towards a milk cleanser, as it feels like it hydrates and cleanses.

Avène Anti-ageing Sun Care SPF 50:

I really want to improve in my day-to-day SPF wear, especially on my face. We always get told to wear an SPF every day (regardless of the weather), but how many of us actually add this extra step? In the past I’ve relied on my foundations SPF, but this year I hit my mid-thirties and I can’t rely on that anymore – especially since I don’t always wear foundation.

I love that this is light so that I can wear it either on top of my moisturiser without feeling like I have too much product on my skin, or simply on it’s own. I’ve noticed it also acts as a primer since it leaves my skin feeling really smooth. When I do wear make-up and I apply foundation, it glides on and blends so well.

Avène SPF 50 Lotion:

This sun lotion is excellent for skin intolerant to chemical filters and to fragrance. It’s very water resistant and leaves no white streaks.
