Welcome Baby George 15.06.2017

11 days ago, I became a Mom! I still can’t believe I get to write that.

I’m going to ask for a little forgiveness for the lack of posts over the last few days and over the next few weeks, while I navigate my way into Motherhood. I finally understand why people say it is the hardest but most rewarding job and I’m only a few days in. Truthfully, they have been the best and some of the hardest. It’s also amazing how much babies change in 1 week.

I’m obviously going to do my best to update my blog because I love writing it and sharing.  If you follow me on social media, I’ll keep you updated as to when a new post is published.

I made it to 37 weeks, which is considered early full term and I’m so proud of that! Hooray!

Baby George Charles Georgiades was born on the 15 June 2017, at 07h38, weighing 3,060kgs.

We never had the experience of “choosing” names. There was no backwards and forwards over what names we liked and didn’t like. No putting names in a hat or anything like that. Before Sox and I were even engaged, we had some serious life talks about our individual futures and our future together. I discovered that there is a tradition when it comes to your babies names. In the Greek tradition, you name your children after their grandparents. Socrates was named after his Dad’s Grandfather and if we had a future son, he would be named after Sox’s Dad, George.  In fact, there is a similar Swiss tradition too in naming after family members, but I don’t think people stick to it as much these days.

We decided to add a second name and use my Dad’s name, Charles. When we looked at it, we laughed over how incredibly regal it sounds and traditionally old fashioned – especially in a world of modern names. It’s also an “old” name for a tiny baby, but I love that it’s very special and sentimental to us. He is named after his 2 Grandfathers – 2 great men and I think it’s a big name for a baby boy who I feel is going to do wonderful things as he grows up. While he is little I can’t help referring to him as Georgie.

Sox and I sing this to him (amongst other songs): Georgie Porgie; Pudding and Pie. Kissed the girls and made them…. HAPPY!!

We are absolutely BESOTTED and Sox and I look at him in complete awe and disbelief. We can’t believe we made him and we can’t believe we get to keep him! Haha.

I get drunk on his smell – it is just the absolute best and I breathe him in all day long.

I keep staring at his lips – people say they’re mine, his little nose, his perfect ears that are identical to Sox’s, his tiny but long fingers and fingernails (they’ve already been trimmed) that are like mine and his toes that are identical to Sox’s. It is hilarious!

His hands are extremely expressive and dramatic and it makes us laugh. In fact, it doesn’t matter how much you swaddle him, his right hand is like Houdini and gets free. He likes to have his arm up by his face. When I started looking at his 4D scans we had throughout the pregnancy, thanks to my Gynaes equipment, which by default gave us the 2D and 4D scans every time, his arm is always up.He has the standard newborn navy blue eyes and we keep wondering if they will change to my brown or to Sox’s green hazel eyes? and his chubby cheeks.

I’m trying to think of some of the funny things we have encountered this week – which all seems to be a bit of a blur.

We have an Angel Care monitor, but Sox and I still can’t help checking to see if he’s breathing. Gosh newborns can keep statue still; giving us mini heart attacks. I think almost every new parent has done the same!

He doesn’t fit into his newborn onesies yet, so I’m glad I bought some prem/ tiny baby onesies for him to wear. I’m sure another week or 2 and he’ll have outgrown them. I now understand why people say time flies even faster when you have kids. I can’t get over it’s been a whole week already, soon I’ll be talking about his 1st Birthday party! Crazy. This is why I want to slow down and enjoy each moment – really breathe it all in.

I always knew Sox would take to Fatherhood like a duck to water, but I couldn’t have foreseen how incredible he was actually going to be. Even throughout my pregnancy, he was brilliant, but seeing him become a Father and a hands-on one, melts me every.single.minute. He also got to experience his first Fathers Day with his 4 day old son, who gave him a card with his foot prints in it and a message. Sox commented on how brilliant his spelling is. Genius baby. 😛

Breastfeeding has been quite a challenge for me, but I am persevering through and seeing a lactation specialist who has already helped me so much!

We came home on Monday. I was kept an extra night to be monitored after a complicated C Section. I can’t wait to share my birth story soon – because it was quite something, let me tell you! It wasn’t just a standard C-section… it had to have it’s drama attached. I’m all fine, let me state that before I make it sound more dramatic than it needs to be, but my recovery is going to take a little longer than normal.

It was amazing to be home, but also a little surreal. Everything is normal – in your comfort zone and then you look over and theres this tiny person who is now a part of the family. It’s quite something to leave the house as 2 and walk in to the house 5 days later as 3.

The first night was obviously a little tough as we tried to settle into our new norm, but also to be expected! I keep thinking that I need to take this all in – the whole experience – including my sore cracked boobs, sleepless nights, trying to decipher the cries and putting on nappies back to front (that was me and Sox had to show me the right way!) It’s all part of the journey and soon he won’t be a newborn anymore, so I really want to savour it 😍

Thank you for all your amazing wishes and the inpouring of love – it has been completely humbling and overwhelming!

Thanks for your lovely post! I’ve been dying to hear all about the birth of your gorgeous Georgie and how you’ve been doing.
Gosh the breast feeding story brings back memories. I too had lots of issues and ending up expressing from 1 boob for 2 babies for 4 months (I had a lumpectomy many years ago that damaged the one breast tissue). I did top up with formula too. It was exhausting! So you just do what you gotta do for a happy healthy baby AND mom.

Ps. I love the Greek tradition of naming after the grandfather. My boys are also named after their grandfathers. My dad was David Max and Trav’s dad is Edmund Von. So the boys are Maxilimian Von (I always wanted the name Max and he was the first born twin) and Tyrol David (Trav liked Ty but we thought we’d give him a longer version name too). I love that they carry their grandpas names, especially as my Dad died 30 years ago.

Good luck with everything and ENJOY xxxx

Oh how I have waited for this post! I am SO happy for you both, and it’s such a miraculous thing, and so surreal, isn’t it, to have a new baby in the house. Reading your posts reminds me SO much of my baby-days. I will never forget the first time I had to trim those impossibly teeny tiny baby nails on my son, how terrified I was of doing it and cutting him by accident. Gosh, good luck and blessings. Can’t wait for the birth story but I certainly understand how hard it is to blog with a new baby. Baby comes first. Blessings.

Oh my, he is gorgeous!!! Congrats!!!
I’m so glad that you have a Lactation consultant helping you. I also battled with breastfeeding my son & after 2 weeks of trying to brave it alone I finally got help from a Lactation consultant & I can honestly say that she saved me from an eminent depression. Unfortunately I had to go back to work at 6 weeks so I had to stop breastfeeding but I’m so glad I persevered!
I’m now 29 weeks preggie with our daughter & ive already made plans for the Lactation consultant to see me in hospital when the birth happens! Lol. No taking chances this time.
Really looking forward to your next post!
