Travel Diary 5: Mauritius

Karolina and I got a wake up call at 04h30, which was 02h30 SA Time. Our bags were packed from the night before, plus we had ticked off our order for breakfast, so at 5am, there was a knock on the door with some breakfast that had been specially arranged and brought to us.

We ate what we could and then rushed to our Summer Times airport transfer.

I’m impressed with how wide awake we look… we weren’t!

It’s a 1 hour drive and even though it was pouring with rain, we got there on time.

It’s the first time I’ve left a trip when it’s raining. You know how Murphy’s Law goes… Normally on the day you’re set to leave, the weather is perfect!!

This gives you an idea… the view from my plane seat

Check in and Passport control was painless and efficient, which gave us plenty of time to peruse the Duty Free section.

I can’t lie… I was so excited to stock up on my Bois Cheri Vanilla Tea, only to discover they were SOLD OUT. I stood there, with my mouth agape in disbelief and then couldn’t stop saying: “No! No! No!”

The poor lady who was helping looked at me like a crazy person. I could almost hear her thinking: “Oookaaay! It’s just tea lady!”

Instead of buying boxes of Vanilla tea bags, I settled for drinking a cup of vanilla tea at the airport restaurant. While we were sitting there, Karolina just burst out laughing. Somehow, a sticky price tag had transferred onto me.  I’m apparently a cheap date – 300 Rupees (R100.)

We had a fantastic flight back on Air Mauritius and the breakfast they served was delicious – a mushroom omelette with sausage, baked beans, a croissant, fruit and tea and juice.

We dozed off for little bits and also watched the movie: Pitch Perfect, which was hilarious!

We landed back in SA at 11h30 and I must say it’s good to be home. I had the best time with Karolina – I really believe every friendship should take a trip like this! It’s so fun and bonding.

Thank you K – for all the memories made, the laughter and the funny stories we can now add to our ever growing list!
