Valentines Picnic

It was our second Valentines day together, but officially our first one in the same city.

Ironically that morning, we were both in Johannesburg for separate reasons and I flew back on the early flight… Later that afternoon I fetched Sox from the airport. He walked out with his luggage and a bunch of roses.

Swoon.

I mentioned last week, that when I had gone to Melissa’s The Food Shop in the V&A Waterfront to pick up my birthday cake, I had ended up getting inspired by their other delicious goodies. Since this was my first Valentines in Cape Town, I couldn’t think of anything more romantic than a beach picnic.

We went at around 19h30 just before sunset…I adore the fact that our Summer days are so much longer. We were originally going to go to Clifton,  but we decided on Sunset Beach. It’s much smaller and riddled with broken sea shells, but it was perfect for our little picnic.

Sea Point and Sunset Beach

In our picnic basket I had a selection of savoury and sweet…

A Melissa’s Fresh Sourdough Bagette, Cream Cheese & Fresh herb dip (perfection), Butter Bean, Red Pepper & Sweet Chilli Salsa (to die for), Chicken liver pate (such a great texture and so tasty), Rosemary and Rock Salt Crisps, Hijke cheese, Richard Bosmans cold meat selection (yummy), Heart shaped meringues, Chocolate Lolly’s & Bag of Hearts.

Delicious

Sox has turned into quite the photographer. He has an incredible eye and these shots are all his…

As the sun set, so the full moon came out to play… It’s been ages since I lay and looked up at the stars. What a beautiful evening…

Sox got creative with the camera again with these next shots and I’m impressed he managed to get these without a tripod to stabilise the camera.

Lions Head and the twinkling stars

What a perfect evening of a wonderfully full belly and a happy heart.

Happy Valentines Day – may this be the first (second) of many more to come…
