Valentine’s Beach Picnic 2017

We decided to have a sunset beach picnic for Valentine’s Day this year – just the 2 of us (and Baby G baking.)

Valentine’s Day is going to be a little different going forward. Next year, that time, it will be bath time and bedtime stories for Baby G. Surreal and super exciting.

I got home from my radio show and Sox had everything packed up for us, ready to hit the beach. We were lucky that there was no wind (plan B was to have a picnic on the living room floor.) I was worried that we wouldn’t find a spot, but there were only a few other couples and families on the beach.

We took our shoes off, unpacked the finger snacks, breathed in the fresh salty air and got comfortable on the picnic blankets.

Seed crackers, roast chicken, chicken bites, chicken liver paté, guacamole, salad and pickles (for preggers here.)

We also packed sparkling waters and The Duchess Virgin Gin & Tonics. They taste so good and I love that they’re sugar free. Hooray!

Must be cold – lovely and refreshing!

We chose Queens beach, which is 3 minutes from our home. It’s not as popular, because when it comes to beaches in Cape Town, it’s not the prettiest or largest and the beach sand isn’t sand at all – it’s crushed up beach shells. But, I love that it always feels a little secluded, even though everyone walking, cycling and running on the promenade looks over. It was actually really nice to have a beach that wasn’t crowded, as long as you don’t mind the locals…

The locals squawk and hope for any dropped morsels, but they do keep their distance and behave.

Munching on fruit pieces and dark chocolate for dessert, we watched the sky turn orange and pink and we chatted about our 5 years together and how excited we are for the next adventure. Our 1 year Wedding Anniversary is coming up in 2 weeks time, can you believe it? We also can’t stop talking about Baby G and how excited (and nervous) we are.

What a perfect Valentine’s and I’m excited for a very different, very special Valentine’s next year, when I’ll have two boys to spoil and love! x

Hey, they use Stevia and Xylitol as sugars, making it banting friendly too! It makes me so happy!

It’s available from Norman Goodfellows, Marco nationwide and online through Yuppiechef.com. There is also a Stockists tab on our Facebook (@drinktheduchess) which list all the independent retailers too!
