I never thought I’d be doing a post like this… I’ve lived in Johannesburg my whole life and it doesn’t snow here.
To suddenly drive the route you take to work every day with snow falling all around you is absolutely unheard of… It was amazing.
After an incredible weekend in Cape Town, I landed in Johannesburg yesterday morning to freezing conditions and very ominous clouds. Twitter was abuzz with reports of snow fall in parts of Joburg and while we have had reports like this before over the past few years, it’s never been in my area.
I started driving to 2Oceansvibe Radio, taking the M1 highway like I do every day and saw the greyness I was driving in to… cars had slowed down completely and suddenly snowflakes started falling. It obviously wasn’t cold enough for the snow to stay in its solid form, so it melted pretty quickly, but it was magical.
I arrived at work and the icy wind bit through me… It didn’t stop snowing for a few hours…again, not really amounting to anything on the ground, much to the dismay of my inner child’s desire to build a snowman…but still wonderful.
I couldn’t help take a video either…
I was in the middle of my radio show with top fashion designer Gert-Johan Coetzee when we were alerted to how much it was snowing ourside the studios in Melrose Arch. So GJ, Melinda Shaw and I ran out of the studio to take photo’s while a song was playing… Such fun!
It’s not snowing today, but it is bitterly cold! If only I could stay under my duvet with copious amounts of Vanilla Tea. Sigh.
