Vita Liberata

I am a Summer baby, although I do enjoy the changing seasons too. I probably love Spring, a little more than Autumn, as I know it’s changing into Summer.

Let’s talk about Autumn now… As the leaves change and the mornings and evenings get brisk, I start getting excited about Winter. It’s the novelty. Red wine, fireplaces, my coats that have been patiently waiting, my comfy boots, warm, soft scarves. Snuggling. Moody landscapes that makes Cape Town just as beautiful in Winter as it is in Summer.

After the first cold spell, I am then over Winter and all that novelty wears off and I realise these cold, wet months are set in. It’s then that I start dreaming of tropical destinations, salty skin and hair and bronzed bodies.

I’m lucky to have skin that does tan in the Summer months… but in Winter, I lose it quickly and I end up looking pasty.

Let’s also face it… Brown fat always looks better than white fat. Yes, I said it.

You always look healthier when you’re bronzed.

As I was quickly dressing one morning and trying to break new records in how fast I can pull my pajamas off and get into warm clothes, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I almost didn’t recognise my lily white legs.

Right, that’s it… On the (ever growing) to-do-list I added: Get a spray tan.

Even though I know most of it will be covered up in winter clothes, it will just make me feel so much better.

Isn’t it amazing how things work when you put thoughts out into the universe? I literally got an email telling me all about Vita Liberata tans and I knew it was a sign.

To be perfectly honest, I’m normally skeptical of tans. I instantly think of those horror stories of girls looking like they’re rolled around in Doritos and Cheese curls.

I also think of this episode from Friends:

I started researching the brand and was incredibly impressed. It’s the number 1 spray tan choice of the stars. Love her or hate her, Kim Kardashian always looks bronzed. Her secret is out… She uses Vita Liberata.

It’s time to name drop some more: Gwyneth Paltrow, Rita Ora, Kirsten Dunst, Sofia Vergara (and we thought it was her Brazilian skin), Giuliana Rancic, Georgia May Jagger, Ellie Goulding and many more.

I booked a session and what impressed me, was before I was even allowed to have the full tan done, I had to do a test patch to see how it looked on my skin. It looked so great and natural and I went back the very next day for the full pHenomenal tan.

Whilst I was there, I was told all about the product. It’s organic and has NO toxins. A lot of spray tans claim that… but what made me realise it was true, was there was no chemical smell as it was sprayed. No smell at all, guys. No holding your breath and no stinking afterwards, either.

It also has Moisture LockTM to hydrate skin for 72 hours, ensuring a tan fades perfectly. Just like a natural suntan.

I got into a hair mask, disposable panties and stood in the spray tent. The brilliant Darryn Johnson sprayed me within minutes and I watched my skin turn from “lily-white” to “I-just-got-back-from-Greece.”

After 8 minutes of allowing it to dry, I got into loose fitting black clothes and went on my merry way, feeling glowy.

I was so worried I would end up being stinky and sticky. Nope… I carried on with my day, went into meetings and did my radio show.

No-one even noticed… Now, that might sound funny, but I don’t want someone to look at me and say: “Oh, look at your spray tan!”

What I did get is: “Wow, your skin! You look so radiant and healthy!” or/and “You’re beautifully tanned. You’re lucky you’ve kept it from Summer.”

I’ve moisturised a lot – which has kept my skin happy too, especially in Winter – and it’s made my tan last.

Post Vita Liberata tan

I highly recommend this as a pick me up in Winter and it’s so much safer throughout Summer too – I’m sure I don’t have to tell you about sun damage and skin cancer.
