PregOmega Plus

PregOmega Plus is the perfect supplements for before, during and after pregnancy. It’s not surprising that it’s South Africa’s number 1 choice.

If you are planning to start a family, pregnant or even postpartum, you need to be taking a multivitamin. It’s also a really good idea to add calcium and Omega-3 too.

When I was pregnant with George, I was buying a multivitamin, plus a calcium tablet and Omega-3s. The PregOmega Plus has all 3 tablets in an all-in-one blister pack, which means you don’t need 3 bottles taking up space. You just need one box, which has everything you need in one. What a pleasure.

I did a little price exercise:

The Omega-3 I was buying cost me R284,95 a month.  The Calcium I was taking cost: R304,00 for 100 capsules. The Multivitamin I was taking cost R95,00 a month.
I was spending: R379,95 a month – just on the Omegas and Multivitamin, and every 3 months, adding the R304 calcium supplements. Approximately R480 a month.

At Dis-Chem, PregOmega is R269, 95 per month.

Wanting to conceive?

If you are wanting to conceive, it’s really important that you start taking a prenatal supplement that has Folic Acid whilst trying. Folic Acid helps prevent neural tube defects. Having all the right vitamins and minerals already in your body just gets your body at optimum health to now house a growing baby. The Folic Acid requirements are 400 mcg. PregOmega has 500 mcg.

Pregnancy:

During pregnancy, it’s vital to give this little baby the best chance at growing healthy and strong. This foetus relies on you completely.

I still find it an absolute miracle. What your body is capable of and how we all form is just humbling.  Mom-to-be’s bodies really need extra supplementation to not only assist their own bodily functions, but now assist a new little person forming and growing. Besides all the regular vitamins and minerals, PregOmega has:

  • Vitamin D enhances immune function and brain development. What’s crazy to me is finding out that 71% of women and 15% of newborns are Vitamin D deficient.
  • Vitamin B6 assists with morning sickness and depression associated with pregnancy.
  • Iron reduced the risk of anaemia.
  • Calcium: Important for fetal bone formation and bone density.
  • Omega-3 fish oil: critical for brain development and protects against allergies.

Oh and this Omega-3 doesn’t repeat on you. Other Omega-3’s have repeated on me, which isn’t pleasant and with the PregOmega Plus capsules, there is no funny after taste at all.

Postpartum:

I find that most women stop taking their vitamins the minute they’ve given birth. I suppose it’s the idea that they were prenatal vitamins – vitamins for the baby inside you. However, you don’t want to just stop taking vitamins because you no longer have a little person inside… that little person still needs you and now more than ever. They need you to be strong and well. You are going to be so sleep deprived, which can knock your immune system. If you’re breastfeeding, the minerals and vitamins are going to aid your body and be passed into your baby through the breastmilk.

You want to continue taking this at least 6 months postpartum, or for as long as you breastfeed.

I got into a habit of taking vitamins daily and since I’ve done the price exercise and have all 3 tablets in one blister pack, changing to PregOmega Plus has been a no-brainer for me. I feel that my immune system is boosted and I’m able to be a healthier Mom for a very busy toddler.

Where are they available?
