On Saturday morning I headed to the Cape Town Science Centre in Observatory. What an amazing place. I had been asked to be an expert judge for Fame Lab.
FameLab® is an exciting international competition that exposes public audiences to the wonders of science in a rather ingenious way: Briefly, scientists and science communicators are put under the glare of an entertainment spotlight for 5 minutes to present an area of science in a creative and imaginative way, and one that has to connect with a general audience.
Think Pop Idols for science.
I was absolutely fascinated by these young scientists who stood up and spoke about theories, experiments and what they are studying. We have an amazing future of scientists and mathematicians.
It was so difficult to eventually choose only 3, but I feel really good about our selection.

After the judging, I headed down to Camps Bay Beach where Cafe Caprice were holding their Annual Volleyball Competition.
The weather was absolutely perfect, with no sign of wind.
Sox was on Caprice’s Volleyball Team and they got all the way to the Semi Finals…

In the meantime, up in Johannesburg, my mom and dad took Duke to Twisted Whiskers – a spa for pets. Excuse me!
He returned home after a dog bath and massage with a blue bandana, looking very chuffed with himself. How cute?
He really does have the life…
On Saturday evening, I went on a Girls Night with some awesome friends…
We headed for dinner, went to Jade to watch the Periquita Fashion Show, went to Aces and then to 31 night club. It was a fun night!

On Sunday, it was incredibly windy, but still gorgeous. I took a drive along the coast line and got these photos…
Sundays are always tough on me and if I’m feeling homesick, Sunday’s can enhance that even more.
We did something that I’m sure is pretty unique… I have a TV at home and a DSTV decoder, but ever since I moved to Cape Town, I have not installed it. It’s not from laziness, it’s just that my lifestyle is different. I download my series and watch YouTube videos if I am home. Otherwise I’m online or reading.
I still watch TV, but mainly with Sox at his apartment and we catch up on shows and movies together.
I couldn’t watch the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony, so my mom FaceTimed me and then set the iPad up on a chair facing the TV. It was awesome… I felt like I was in the living room, with my family watching the Closing Ceremony.
It was awesome.
My mom sent me a pic showing how they had propped the iPad up on a chair. Hilarious.
Don’t you just love technology?
