London Day 3

Have you read London Day 1 and Day 2? Oh good… Let’s get into Day 3 then.

Sunday, 07 August 2016:

As we were in London for 5 days, we toured as much as we could. We also knew we would be relaxing on the Greek beaches towards the end of our trip, so we didn’t mind tiring ourselves out. Although, as I type that, I have to admit it wasn’t really all that tiring… Yes, my legs were a little sore from all the walking and we crammed in a lot, but being in London was invigorating. London’s energy is amazing and you can never run out of things to do there. I often see what Ross and Tandi do on a weekend and I’m envious of it. However, it’s also inspired me to enjoy my own city, because Cape Town has just as much to do. We definitely take it for granted sometimes and don’t maximise our own space.

On Sunday morning we hired bikes to ride through Regent Park…rent-a-bike-copybicycle-family-copybicycle-family-2-copyWe ditched the bikes and took a walk up Primrose Hill, meeting some English Bulldogs along the way… I miss my Duke!bulldogs-copyprimrose-hill-5-copyprimrose-hill-4-copyprimrose-hill-2-copyprimrose-hill-6-copyprimrose-hill-greenery-copy

The view is pretty amazing and my photo’s don’t do it justice. I could easily see us setting up a fresh picnic and enjoying the sunshine, but we were going to have breakfast at Camden Market…primrose-hill-3-copytandi-sox-and-i-primrose-hill-copyprimrose-hill-copy

We set off to walk along the Canals, but not before passing pastel colour homes… We had originally decided that Tandi and Ross would have the yellow and we would have the pink… but then the boys got involved and it was settled on us being neighbours in the grey and white homes. ice-cream-homes-copyWe walked past beautiful churches, imagined what life must be like living on a house boat.canals-2-copycanals-copycanals-house-boats-copysox-and-bailey-canals-copycanals-london-copyWe discovered doors that looked like they might enter into a secret world.secret-door-copy

Finally arriving at Camden…camden-3-copy

One thing I noticed each day in London, is how the new, modern architecture mixes with the old architecture. It somehow just works… camden-copybrunch-camdenWe grabbed coffee and breakfast…

I bought a cute top from the market and a gorgeous pair of shoes from the Aldo factory store. We walked along the streets, passed pretty pubs…pretty-pubs-copy

Had a coffee at The Coffee Jar…the-coffee-jar-copytandi-at-the-coffee-jar

Tandi tried to explain the London Tube system to me, but I’m still a little overwhelmed by it all.london-transport-copy

We took a double decker bus to Kingscross…tandi-and-bailey-double-decker-buscopy

…where we found the Harry Potter platform 9 3/4. There is a Harry Potter store right next door to it. There is no such thing as just casually standing there getting a photo, like I had hoped.  Instead, there is a cordoned off area for the queue, something I was not prepared to stand in. Once you get to the front, you can choose a scarf of the different houses to wear and then pose with the travel trolley that’s half in the wall. There is a lady there to pull the scarf out and let it go, so that when the photo is taken it looks like you’re running, with the scarf flying out behind you. I hope I’ve explained it properly. I tried to take a few pics of it…

The station is pretty impressive… it looks like a massive spider web.spiderweb-train-station-copyKingscross Station.jpg

Tandi and Ross headed home and Sox and I head off to Wembley. It was the Community Shield between Manchester United and Leicester City and we were joining up with good friends, Addy and Andy who had tickets for us.

I was so excited to be at a game, with all the singing, the atmosphere and of course the football. Sox is a MASSIVE Manchester United fan – I’m still never going to understand the full fanaticism – but it was really great to be able to share in his passion and experience it.wembley-stadium-copy

We walked in a sea of red and blue…walk-to-wembley-copywembley-stadium-2-copywembley-stadium-charity-shield-copybeers-at-wembley-copywembley-copywembley-attendance-2016-copyseats-at-wembley-copysox-and-bailey-at-wembley-stadium-copy

Manchester United won the Community Shield. The crowd roared, red and white streamers shot into the sky and it was so much fun to be a part of it. I couldn’t help getting into the spirit of the day!man-utd-won-copy

We got the Tube back to Ross and Tandi, ate dinner, chatted away about our experience and hit the pillow to recharge for the adventure we had planned for the next day.

Hi Liezel, travelling just makes the travel bug hit even harder, doesn’t it? I’ll most definitely be posting about Greece. I’m going in order, so I’ve got two more posts of London, then Switzerland and then Greece… I feel bad for posting so much, but this little online space of mine also serves as a bit of a travel diary/log that I can keep forever 😉 Thanks for reading – means a lot x
