C’est La Vie

“Life happens when you’re making other plans.” I don’t know who said it, but how true it is.

Last week was my toughest week. Besides, the obvious, it also happened to be one of my busiest weeks, career wise. Murphy’s Law. It really was one of those weeks that tested me on every level.

I felt incredibly torn. How do I honour my work commitments and responsibilities and how do I mourn and be there for my husband and his/our family?

It also happened to be ironic in the sense that the work I needed to fulfil was incredibly public and glamourous. Ordinarily I’m exceptionally grateful for the work and opportunities, but this was unbelievably tough and I felt like my true professionalism was being tested to the max.

This is the tough side of what we do. It’s not like I can mourn at a desk. I am in the business of entertaining. “The show must go on…”

Not only have I been in mourning, but I’ve been in rehearsals for big events, in dress fittings, recordings and meetings about the events. I was very grateful to Smile 90.4 FM who graciously gave me some time off and Maurice Carpede did the Afternoon Drive show solo.

My MC work couldn’t be missed, however, as I would have left client in the lurch with such short notice.

I am so lucky to have the husband I have, who not only understood, but even encouraged me.

Last Thursday evening I hosted The SAB Awards at the Cape Town Convention Centre for 1300 people with Tats Nkonzo. The stage was so impressive and had this giant ball with images projected onto it. My stylist Vikash sourced 2 Gavin Rajah dresses for me. I would be wearing many hats over the next 2 days. My company BS MEDIA handles all the social media for the Mercedes Benz Bokeh Fashion Film Festival. I also host the day time program of international and local speakers and then host the red carpet. Oh and I had my radio show & show prep in the middle of it too. Crazy, but I love it.

Selfishly, I would have preferred this to happen in any other week. 🙁

I have too many pics to share, so I’ll leave that for tomorrow’s post!

Hope you’ve had an excellent public holiday, Freedom Day!

Oh Bailey, I can only imagine how hard it must be to be torn like that – really needing to do your job(s) but really wanting to be at home to support your family. Truly looks like you handled it like the pro you are, well done!

I must really commend you on being so brave, while going through such a sad time in your life. I am sure the love of your family and the support from friends helped you through this time, but also that you are a strong woman. My heart is with you. xx
